[05.28.10] Pleasantdale students meet their Peruvian Pen Pals: The 5th grade Spanish class at Pleasantdale School was able to meet their Peruvian Pen Pals in a video conference on Friday, May 28th. Students were able to communicate in Spanish with the students in a 5th grade class in Lima, Peru and discuss their favorite foods, music, sports and much more. Students were thrilled about learning that Miley Cyrus is a favorite for students in Peru as well. Pleasantdale students were amazed at how our cultures are very similar and learning about Peru and their history, the Machu Pichu ruins, and lines of Nazca among other topics was memorable. Students will continue to write and perhaps email students over the summer in hopes of practicing their Spanish and making a cultural connection that they will remember for a long time.
[04.15.10] MAGPI: Cell Signaling and Targeted Therapuetics for the Treatment of Cancer: Students from Mr. Mitchells' Biology class connected via videoconference with Dr. Matthew J. Lazzara, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, for a discussion of cell signaling and 'targeted' therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. This presentation will outline the basic concepts underlying receptor-mediated cell signaling in health and in disease with a special focus on how improperly regulated cell signaling processes can lead to cancer.
[03.30.10] MAGPI: Flat Stanley Project: Students from Gregory Elementary School will be participating in a videoconference with a school in Pennsylvania about the adventures of their Flat Stanley.
[03.23.10] MAGPI:Does Climate Change Equal Global Castrophe? Students from Mr. Mitchells' Earth Science Class and Mr. Ficuciellos' Environmental Science classes connected via videoconference with Dr. David Robinson, Chairman of the Department of Geography at Rutgers University and New Jersey 's State Climatologist for a discussion on the facts and fiction of Climate Change.
[03.22.10] MAGPI: Global Passport to Clean Water | Moving the World Toward Achieving Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation for All: Students from Ms. Zaccaro's 8th Grade Science class at Liberty Middle School have provided an update on their role in the global water crisis. The students got to interact with other school districts about their projects and showed their video project.
[03.17.10] Rainforest Connection: Elementary students at Pleasantdale and Gregory Elementary Schools will connect via a videoconference with Dr. Willis, a scientist/researcher who is currently working in a rainforest in Panama. Note: this videoconference did not take place due to technical difficulties in Panama.

[03.11.10] MAGPI: The Race for the Double Helix: Students from Mr. Mitchells' High School biology class connected via videoconference with Dr. Chi-hua Chiu, Assistant Professor in the department of Anthropology at Kent State University and Assistant Professor in the Department of Genetics at Rutgers University for a discussion of the scientific, political and ethical issues related to the discovery of the double helix.

[03.09.10] MAGPI: Enhancing STEM education through interactive technologies over Internet2 and MAGPI: An overview of various resources available over the Internet2 and MAGPI networks that can enrich and support STEM initiatives in your classroom or institution such as; Digital library and learning objects, virtual field trips, remote instrumentation, virtual worlds. The target audience for this video conference is educations across the K-20 community.
[02.19.10] MAGPI: Flat Stanley Project: Students from Pleasantdale Elementary School connected with one of their Flat Stanley partner schools to discuss the journey and experience of their Flat Stanley.
[01.26.10] MAGPI: Flat Stanley Project: Mrs. Healy and Ms. Pereira's Classes from Gregory Elementary School participated in a videoconference with Ms. Jespersen's Class in Green Hope Elementary School in Cary, North Carolina. The students from Gregory Elementary School shared some of the festivals and traditions that take place in West Orange, New Jersey each year. The students told about the Turkey Trot, The Thomas Edison Museum, Field Day, and The Gregory School Strawberry Festival. The students from Green Hope Elementary School shared some of the festivals and traditions in Cary, North Carolina.

[11.20.09] MAGPI: Cartooning with Blitz: During this interactive videoconference event, Blitz spoke about his experiences as a cartoonist, leading students from Dr. Galate and Ms. Villalobos' art classes at Liberty Middle School through drawing exercises and interactive cartooning demonstrations.
[11.13.09] MAGPI: Experiences of Women in Afghanistan | A Conversation with Suraya Pakzad: Named one of Time Magazine's most 100 Influential People of 2009, Suraya will talk about her life experiences and work as the Executive Director and Founder of Voice of Women Organization. Students from Ms. Thomassie's AP Literature class at WOHS participated in the video conference.
[11.12.09] MAGPI: Pew Fellows in Playwriting: WOHS students from Ms. VanDyke's Drama class learned about the artists’ inspirations and ideas for writing their plays. In addition, actors and stage directors along with the playwrights were seen in readings, rehearsals and performances, providing further insight into the creative process. An interactive discussion with the playwrights and filmmaker Glenn Holsten followed the screenings.

[10.27.09] MAGPI: Global Passport to Clean Water | Moving the World Toward Achieving Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation for All: Students from Ms. Zaccaro's 8th Grade Science class at Liberty Middle School have engaged in this six month program that have introduced her students to the facts about the world water crisis, allow the students to investigate and support various water-related projects, take an active role in moving the world toward the millennium goal and publicize their efforts through a media project video collaboration.
[10.1.09] MAGPI: Opera Company of Philadelphia | Inside Madama Butterfly: WOHS students from Ms. VanDyke's Drama class connected with the director of Madama Butterfly, Cynthia Stokes to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes at an opera house and what a director goes through to bring an opera to life. |
